How do we achieve Hypnosis? Guided and Self Hypnosis are achieved by slowing the electrical impulses called brain waves, that flow through our brain cells. The millions upon millions of brain cells, called neurons form into avenues through which the electricity flows. These neural impulses are bits of information carried from one neuron to another faster than the speed of thought which is faster than the speed of light. These bits of information are what cause us to do everything conscious and unconscious, from blinking, to beating our hearts, to typing key words into google. Certainly the brain is much more complicated , but this explanation is meant to help you to grasp how hypnosis works on a biological level. The state of Hypnosis is generally achieved in the alpha state of consciousness. Alpha is ideal for excelerated learning, creativity, problem solving, healing, pain management, and improved memory among other beneficial changes. There are various trance states that we naturally move in an out of through out the day and night.

The 4 major brain wave levels of consciousness involved in the hypnotic trance state:

1) We are in Beta when we are working, alert, agitated, tense, stressed, or afraid, with frequencies ranging from 13 to 40 pulses per second in the Hertz scale.

2) We are in Alpha when we are body and mind are relaxed, calm, and day dreamy. However, we are still very aware of our surroundings, its frequency are between 7 to 13 pulses per second.

3) When we are in Theta we are in deep hypnosis near sleep, less awareness and in a state of somnolence. Our frequencies are pulsing at 4 to 7 pulses per second.

4) In Delta we are in deep sleep, unresponsive, loss of muscle control, slowing down of bodily functions, and breathing. With wave frequencies between 0.1 and 4 cycles per second.
