What if everything around you didn’t have to change for you to stay calm and steady inside?
This week’s Selah Monday Morning Meditation dives into the Hebrew idea of Hishtavut (השתוות) — equanimity, or the practice of building inner steadiness even when people, situations, and opinions are pushing your buttons.
We’re continuing this journey into awareness and self-mastery by sitting with a simple but powerful truth:
Not everything you notice needs your judgment, and not everything you feel needs a spoken response.
In this guided meditation, you’ll practice noticing thoughts, sensations, judgments, and emotional reactions without rushing to do something about them.
Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with this person?” we get curious:
🌿 What is this reaction showing me about myself?
Is it bumping up against a value?
An expectation?
A fear?
A boundary?
Something familiar from my past?
Or is this just a moment I can let be?
Our reactions can teach us a lot—but they don’t have to be our marching orders.
Something can stir me up without taking me over.
Hishtavut isn’t about checking out, stuffing your feelings, or putting up with mistreatment. It’s about being steady enough inside to see what truly deserves your energy, what needs your voice, and what you’re actually free to just let pass by.
🌿 YOUR SELAH PRACTICE THIS WEEK
When you notice yourself getting activated:
Pause.
Breathe.
Get curious.
Ask yourself:
“What is this reaction showing me about myself?”
Then ask:
“Does this moment really need a response from me?”
And finally:
“What matters more to me right now?”
Being right?
Or love, understanding, connection, peace, and cooperation?
Sometimes something really does need to be said.
Sometimes a boundary really does need to be honored.
And sometimes you find something beautifully freeing:
I don’t actually have to do anything with this.
I can just let it be.
✨ A THOUGHT TO CARRY WITH YOU
I don’t need everything around me to change for me to stay peaceful inside.
Come hang out with us for Selah Monday Morning Meditation each week as we keep growing in awareness, inner peace, spiritual maturity, and the power to consciously choose how we meet our lives.
Pause. Breathe. Get curious. Receive. Choose Ha-Chayyim. Live.
Selah. 🌿
Peace & Blessings,
Tamara
