The Space Between: What Happens When We Stop Doing?

When was the last time you allowed yourself ten minutes of silence?

No phone. No conversation. No music. No list of things to accomplish.

Just being.

This morning during Selah Monday Morning Meditation, we did something a little different.

We’ve spent several weeks exploring awareness, intention, gratitude, trust, and the practice of receiving. Each week has offered an opportunity to notice ourselves more deeply and make conscious choices about how we experience life.

But sometimes even our spiritual practices can become another form of work.

Another way to improve ourselves.

Another thing to get right.

So this morning, we gave ourselves permission to rest.

Our theme was The Space Between — Resting in the Silence.

We began with a gentle invitation to become present, followed by ten minutes of complete, uninterrupted silence.

And one simple reminder:

Silence doesn’t require a silent mind.

Thoughts may come and go. We may become aware of sounds, sensations, or the wandering mind. The invitation is simply to remain present with whatever arises.

Last week, through Kabbalah, we practiced opening our hands and becoming available to receive.

This week, we allowed ourselves to rest with those hands open.

🌿 Experience This Week’s Selah

I’ve included the complete meditation below. Find a comfortable place, give yourself these few minutes, and enjoy the spaciousness.

A Gentle Invitation for the Week

Notice the spaces that already exist in your day.

The moment before answering a question.

The quiet between activities.

The few seconds before reaching for your phone.

Every now and then, allow one of those spaces to remain unfilled.

Pause. Breathe. Be.

Choose Ha-Chayyim. Live.

Selah. 🌿
